“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose site of the shore.” ~Andre Gide
When Christopher Columbus set off in search of the new world he made some stops along the way. Well as they say third times the charm, because on Columbus’ third “stop” he landed on Long Island in the Bahamas. In his diary he described Long Island as the most beautiful island he has ever seen. Quite frankly I’d have to agree him. Long Island is truly breathtaking. It’s an island that to most can seem uninteresting but for those with an eye for adventure it is your wonderland.
“Life is either a great adventure or nothing” ~Helen Keller
The Pictures in this post are from our trip to the far North end of Long Island, where we saw the monument that was erected in Columbus’ honor. Standing on the Columbus monument on top of the white bluffs over looking the vast ocean is something to experience. The perspective looking out over the open ocean is humbling to say the least, and so is the road to get there.
“We should come home from adventures, and perils, and discoveries every day with new experiences and character.” ~Henry David Thoreau
